London Online Cello Courses

A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR CELLISTS OF ALL AGES TO PLAY TOGETHER, DEVELOPING THEIR PERFORMANCE SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE, WHILE GETTING TO KNOW THE WEALTH OF REPERTOIRE WRITTEN SPECIFICALLY FOR CELLISTS. 

Introductory Course (for cellists of approximate grades 1-5) 28-31 July 2020  

 

Advanced Course (for cellists of approximate grades 5-8) 4 -7 August 2020

Each day there will be an opportunity to book a further 1:1 session (at extra cost) with one of the tutors, either on material for the course or something the pupil is working towards, such as an exam, audition or a concert.

Robin Thompson-Clarke studied cello at the Royal Academy of Music under Vivian Joseph and Douglas Cummings. He also studied chamber music with Sidney Griller and participated in master classes with Lutoslawski and the Delme Quartet. Whilst at the Royal Academy he was awarded the prestigious Gerard Heller Intercollegiate Quartet Prize.
As a soloist Robin has performed throughout the world in many prestigious venues, including the Moscow Conservatoire, the Royal Albert Hall, the National Concert Hall, Dublin (with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland) and as soloist alongside Sir Anthony Sher in the acclaimed production of PRIMO at the National Theatre.

As a chamber musician, he has toured extensively in Europe and has recorded two CDs with his piano trio ‘Kammerspiel’ He has performed with many of this country’s symphony and chamber orchestras and his West End performances include Aspects of Love, Crazy for You, Joseph, Wicked and Guys and Dolls.

Robin has worked with the Arts Council in the commissioning of many new works, including two concertos especially written for him. He has also recorded 4 solo CDs as well as appearing as soloist on at least 50 others.

Robin has taught at the Royal College of Music Junior Department for the last 30 years as a cello teacher, chamber coach and orchestral sectional coach. Many of his pupils now have a career in music. He currently teaches cello and chamber music at Highgate School.

He is an Advanced Skills Teacher and works as a consultant to many schools around the country.

Meera Priyanka Raja studied at the Royal College of Music with Professor Alexander Chaushian. She was supported by the Musicians’ Company Lambert Mentorship Scholarship and was a Help Musicians UK Postgraduate Award Holder.

           As an experienced chamber musician, Meera regularly performs with her piano trio. They have performed at venues across London and Europe and reached the semi-finals of the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition. They were recently invited to hold a residency at 'Music at Brel', Roquecor. She has performed in festivals including the British Isles Music Festival, Sacconi Chamber Music Festival, Buckingham Palace Coronation Festival and Cello Akadamie Rutesheim in the class of Jens Peter Maintz. 

            As an orchestral player, Meera has led various projects at the RCM and was selected to perform in a 'United Europe' tour with concerts in Berlin and Rotterdam as well as joining the Symphony Orchestra of India for concerts in Mumbai and their UK tour.

     Meera played in the award-winning West End Musical ‘Bend it like Beckham’ and New Musical, ‘Beyond the Fence.’ She subsequently performed as a solo cellist in a touring theatre production of E.M. Forster’s novel ‘A Passage to India.’ Meera has performed live on BBC radio3’s ‘In Tune’ programme with composer and tabla player Kuljit Bhamra MBE and has performed solo in venues across the UK and Europe. She regularly performs recitals across London with duo partner, pianist Peter Regan.

            Meera has a passion for teaching and outreach work. As well as teaching privately, she was most recently a Cello Mentor for the Sparks programme at RCMJD. As part of being a Yeomen Young Artist with the Musicians' Company, Meera is involved in conducting assemblies in schools to introduce the cello and classical music. She strongly believes that every child is deserving of a musical education.

The cost of the Introductory Course is £200 and the Cost of the Advanced Course is £300. In order to secure a place on the course a non-refundable deposit of £50 per participant is payable at time of booking. The remainder of the course fee will be payable 14 days before the beginning of the course. 

 

Final course details will be sent out two weeks before the course date.
